This portfolio is where I show projects I have worked on in various categories.

Web Technology

I have done much with web technology since I first started in 1999. I was first introduced to web sites by my technology teacher at school, who had his students make sites on Yahoo! Geocities. I was content with using the Java-based web page builder provided, but one thing bugged me: it used absolute positioning for everything, so I could not center something in the browser window.

It was because of this that I took it upon myself to learn HTML4. Shortly after I learned basic JavaScript. I became very interested in JavaScript and soon made a few JavaScript “applications” for use on my computer in Internet Explorer. I became more and more interested in scripting on web pages and then found Perl. I soon fell in love with Perl and wrote not only dozens of CGI scripts, but also Perl utility scripts for use on my computer.

I joined a web development forum in the summer of 2004 and found that everyone there was using PHP. So I learned PHP and now use both Perl and PHP in web development. In 2006 I learned Python for use as a CGI and can now include three scripting languages for web use.

Boy Scout Troop 636 Web Site

The Boy Scout Troop 636 web site is, I think, my best site so far. It has had a total of three different designs, this being the best and current.

The site provides Troop 636 with information such as upcoming events and current news. The site also provides information for visitors looking for information about Troop 636. It also features a full calendar, an extensive online photo album, much information for boys attempting their Eagle, and high adventure logs.
